Jim graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1986. He served as an officer in the U. S. Naval Reserves until 1994 and held a U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate's license, unlimited tonnage. He has sailed around the world on various commercial and naval vessels. Upon arriving in Mobile, Alabama in 1987, he was privileged to work as a summer clerk for the late U.S. District Court Judge Daniel H. Thomas. In 1989, he graduated from Tulane University School of Law and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to work for the law firm of Palmer, Biezup & Henderson on such notable cases as the EXXON VALDEZ disaster.

In 1991, Jim moved back to Mobile and worked with a large law firm on a variety of cases. In 1998, he opened up his own practice thanks to the support from local attorneys and Judges.

There is a difference between getting a case and trying a case. Jim has tried numerous civil cases (wrongful death, car wrecks, truck wrecks, premises liability, insurance disputes, warranty, construction, products liability, workers comp, Dram Shop, toxic torts, business disputes, nursing home abuse, maritime) and criminal cases (death penalty, DUI, etc.). He has tried cases in both state and federal courts.

The philosophy of Jim's law practice is based upon a passionate commitment to the client and their case. Even when the case is over, Jim is always available to help in any way he can.

His wife Leah has endured him for twenty years and he is blessed with two children Claire (Murphy High School) and Jack (St. Luke's).
